The Department of Urological Surgery in Oxford was started 25 years ago under the direction of Mr Joe Smith, OBE, MS, FRCS. Under his leadership the department has built up an international reputation in both clinical and academic research.
The department is involved in the surgical treatment of diseases of the urinary tract. These include cancer of the prostate and testis, bladder dysfunction and incontinence.
The department, based at the Churchill Hospital, provides a comprehensive service to the population of Oxfordshire, including services at the Horton Hospital in Banbury. The department also acts as a tertiary referral centre for patients with more complex problems from further afield.
history
Many Patients ask if there is anything that they can do to help the work of the department and the ward. As a result, In 2003 the Department of Urology Oxfordshire (DUO) charitable Trust was set up by staff and patients to raise funds which would be used to enhance the delivery of care for all urological patients.
